A Healthy Lifestyle for an Improved Memory

By treating your body well, you should be able to enhance your abilities at being able to process and recall information.
Below, we will take a look at some different healthy habits you could integrate in to the life you lead at the present time in order to help improve your memory.
Exercise
Taking regular exercise helps to increase the flow of oxygen to the brain. This, in turn, reduces the risk for you suffering from disorders which can lead to memory loss, such as cardiovascular diseases or diabetes.
Also, it helps to improve the effects that the helpful brain chemicals have, as well as protecting those brain cells you already have.
Manage your Stress Levels
The stress hormone known as Cortisol can actually cause damage to the hippocampus in the brain if a person is unable to relieve the stress that they are feeling. In most cases, a person who is feeling stressed will find it much more difficult to concentrate on things, which in turn results in
them actually not being able to process and retain information easily.
Improve your Sleeping Habits
We all need sleep, and it is very important, as it helps the memory to consolidate the information we have obtained during the day. Unfortunately, if you are someone who suffers from insomnia or sleep apnea, or just generally do not like to sleep more than a few hours each night, then during the day, you will be feeling tired and will find it very difficult to concentrate.
Do Not Smoke
Anyone who smokes is at a greater risk of suffering from a vascular disorder, which in turn can result in them having a stroke, or their arteries become constricted, and so the delivery of oxygen to the brain is diminished.
Improve your Diet
Aren’t we all being told these days that a good diet is one which contains fruit, vegetables as well as whole grains and healthy fats? Not only can a good diet provide our body with plenty of health benefits, it can also help to improve a person’s memory.
Research carried out is indicating that certain nutrients will

help to not only nurture, but also stimulate the functions of the brain.
a. Vitamin B6, B12 and Folic Acid
These help to protect the brains neurons by breaking down homocysteine, which is an amino acid and which is toxic to the nerve
cells. But they also help to make red blood cells, which our bodies need in order to transport oxygen around it, including to the brain.
The best places to get a good source of Vitamins B from are in spinach, as well as other types of dark green leafed vegetables, broccoli, asparagus, strawberries, melons as well as black beans and other forms of legumes. Also, you should increase your intake of fruit and soybeans.
Antioxidants
Specifically, we are looking at Vitamins C and E, along with Beta Carotene. They help to fight any free radicals in the body, which are atoms that are formed when oxygen is able to interact with certain molecules in the body. They are highly reactive, and can cause damage to the body’s cells. But antioxidants are able to interact with these safely, and so are able to neutralize them. These antioxidants can help to improve the flow of oxygen through our bodies and to the brain.
The best places to find these particular antioxidants in are blueberries, and all other sorts of berries, along with sweet potatoes, red tomatoes, spinach as well as broccoli and green tea, nuts and seeds. Also, citrus fruits and liver are a great source for getting antioxidants as well.

Fatty Acids – Omega 3
functions. These count as healthy fats in a person’s diet, as opposed to those which are not, such as saturated and trans fats. They help to protect a person against inflammation, as well as having a high level of cholesterol in their body.
The best places to obtain Omega 3 fatty acids is by eating cold water fish, such as salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel or halibut. Also, walnuts, walnut oil, flaxseed and its oil are a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids as well.
Plus, as we grow older, we are more likely to suffer from a deficiency of both Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid, and so it is important that older people use a supplement to counteract such deficiencies. If you are someone who is not particularly keen on fish, then also include an Omega 3 supplement as part of your new diet regime. However, no nutrient will work effectively without us consuming the right sorts of foods as well. Therefore, it is important that as part of your healthy diet regime, you ensure that you eat plenty of colorful plant foods and choose those fats which can help to keep your arteries clear. In the long run, not only your body, but your brain will be thanking you for the changes that you have made.

A Great Technique for Improving Your Memory

There are many different ways in which a person can help themselves improve their memory. In this particular chapter of the book, we will be looking at Mnemonic devices (the initial “M” in this word is silent).
These particular devices help a person by providing them with clues in order for them to remember something. In most cases, a person will associate the information that they are trying to remember with either a visual image, a sentence or with a particular word.
The most common types of mnemonic devices are as follows:-
Visual Images
It is important that a person uses positive and pleasant images, as the brain will often block out those which they find to be unpleasant. Also, make them as vivid, colorful as well as three dimensional, as this makes it all the easier for you to remember them.
Words
initial of what it is you are trying to remember. There are millions of musicians around the world who used the sentence “Every good boy does fine” in order that they could memorize the lines of the treble staff. The first letters of each word in the above sentence represent the notes E, G, B, D and F. Also you will find that medical students, in order to learn the groups of nerves, bones and other features of the human body, will use nonsense sentences in order that they retain the information much more easily, as well as being able to recall it when required.

Acronyms
This is where a person will use initials when then creating a pronounceable word. For example musicians will remember the spaces between the lines on the treble staff by saying the word “face” which stands for the other notes F, A, C and E.
Rhymes and Alliteration
When I was younger, we learned the rhyme “30 days hath September, April, June and November. But all the rest hath 31 except for February alone.” So why not use this in the same way for other things, such as if you are trying to recall a co-workers name? By providing symbolization to them, you should be able to recall their name without any problems. For example, suppose you work with a guy called Mike, who happens to be a little funny, you can try remembering him as “Mad Mike”.

Jokes
Use these to remember facts, figures and names. Often, people find it easier to remember things which are either funny or weird, rather than something which is a little more ordinary.

Chunking Information
With this mnemonic device you will arrange a long list of information into smaller groups or sections, making them much easier to remember. Often people find that it is much easier to remember their Social Security number once they have arranged it into much smaller groups of digits, say 3 or 4 in each group, rather than trying to remember the whole 9 digits together.
Loci Method
This is both a very ancient and effective way for a person to remember a lot of information, say for example, a speech that they will be giving. What you need to do with this method is associate each part of what it is you have to remember with a particular landmark or spot on a route that you know very well, for example, the route you use each day to get to work.
Exercise your Brain
This is probably one of the best ways of improving your memory. Unfortunately, the less you use your brain, then the more chances you will have of being unable to retain information. So if you can, exercise it as much as possible and you will soon find that you are not only able to process information better, but also find it much easier to remember the information as well.
There are now computer games available both for your PC and many of the handheld computers, such as Game Boy and PSP, which are specifically designed to help exercise the brain. One of the most common of these that is regularly advertised both on TV, in magazines and online is the “Dr Brain Game”.

Managing A Panic Attack While Your At Your Job Or Business

At times, our worries and anxieties can overwhelm us at our place of work or business. Here is a brief list of techniques that a person can use to help manage their anxious moments at their job or business environment.

When feeling anxious, stop what you are doing and try to do something that will relax you. A person should take a deep breath and try to find something to do for a few minutes to get their mind off of the problem. A person could get some fresh air, listen to some music, or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things.

Remember that our fearful thoughts are exaggerated and can make the problem worse. A good way to manage your worry is to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or anxious, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense.

When overwhelmed with worry, a person may encounter a lot of scary thoughts coming at them all at once. Instead of getting upset, remember that these thoughts are exaggerated and are not based on reality. From my interviews with various professionals, I’ve learned that usually it is the fear behind the thoughts that gets us worked up. Ignore the fear behind these thoughts, and your worry should decrease.

Remember that all the worrying in the world will not change anything. I realized that most of what we worry about never comes true. Instead of worrying about something that probably won’t happen, concentrate on what you are able to do. Everything else you can leave in the hands of God.

As a Layman, I realize it is not easy to deal with all of our fears. When your fears and anxieties have the best of you, try to calm down and then get the facts of the situation. The key is to take it slow. All you can do is to do your best each day, hope for the best, and when something does happen, take it in stride. Take things one step at a time, and things will work out.

5 Effective Self-Help Techniques

There are many self-help methods being used today. These methods are geared towards making you live a happier and more successful life. There is an increasing focus on self-help to curb different areas of life such as illnesses and unproductive lives. Here are five self-help techniques that can change your life.
Technique # 1: Affirmations
These are simple and straightforward positive statements that either declare your current positive status or positive action. Affirmations need to be repeated many times so that they can make an impact on the subconscious mind. As the subconscious mind starts believing that the affirmations are true, it helps you to align your thoughts to your actions. In turn, this starts taking you closer to the life of your dreams.
Daily affirmations include statements like, "I am beautiful", "I will succeed in this mission", "I am unique and special" and "Losing that job will only lead me to a better one".
Technique # 2: Setting Goals
This is an incredible self-help technique. It is hard to plan to succeed without literally having a plan. Therefore, after setting goals, make every effort to achieve them. This will increase your self-esteem and significantly increase your chances of further success.
Technique # 3: Creative Visualizations
This is an amazing tool when it comes to self-help. To do this, just visualize success in whatever you are intending to do. Doing this continuously will help you to start believing it as true. This will significantly increase your chances of this happening.
Technique # 4: Meditation
Meditation is a highly effective self-help technique. This is a method in which a person trains his mind to induce a certain consciousness mode so as to gain an intended benefit. There are many benefits of meditation. Some of them are outlined below:
  • It reduces production of cortisol, the stress hormone
  • It boosts immune system
  • It reduces chronic pain
  • It increases longevity
  • It reduces high blood pressure
The fact that meditation helps you to quiet down your mind is good for both your mind and body. Your subconscious mind constantly tries to communicate to your conscious mind. If you do not pay attention, this message will be communicated through your body. This can be through body pains, diseases, cramps, muscle tension and many other malfunctions of the body. Meditation helps to avoid all this.
Technique # 5: Exercise
Exercising is one thing which most people know of its importance but yet very few people do it. Unless you have a special condition, you do not have to go to a doctor so as to start exercising. The first step that you can do towards exercise is to increase your level of activity. Control any habits that will keep you seated down or depending on machines and become more active.
Increasing your activity level alone is not enough. It is important to create a specific exercise routine and stick to it. In case you need to change your routine, only change for the better. You do not necessarily have to go to the gym. You can choose to go for aerobics, jog, run, take a brisk walk, swim vigorously and regularly, dance or play an active sport. Some of the benefits you will get from exercising include:
  • A better mood
  • Better health
  • Increased energy
  • Having a better physique
  • Keeping weight in check
The first step to self-help is deciding to take control of your life. Stop letting other people control it. Stop assuming that things will somehow be okay in future. Instead, start using these self-help techniques now to ensure a brighter future..

7 Self-Reflection Questions for Personal Development Goals

We all have a dream that we want to experience but it can remain hidden without asking ourselves some self-reflection questions. If you are staring at your computer screen thinking to yourself "I don't have a dream or what questions" do not worry. We will go over some great questions in order to help you with your personal development goals.
1. What one personal development goal if achieved tomorrow would give you the greatest feeling of success?
By discovering which goal is most important to us we can better focus our energy and time on what means the most to us. This does not mean we sacrifice the rest of life to get that goal but by being clear on what is most important to us we make better decisions. If you do not find the answer to this question your life goals will not align with your true purpose. Your intentions will not attract the individuals and circumstances needed to make your dreams come true.
2. Are these your goals or someone else's?
Are you living into what you believe is a predetermined future for yourself? If your parents, grandparents and siblings are all lawyers do you feel obligated to be the same even though you dislike the profession?
You are not anyone but who you are and you need to determine your goals based on that fact in order to live your dream life. A life lived through others expectations, is a life that is filled with regret and what could have been.
You do not have to feel selfish for pursuing your own dreams and not the dreams others have for you. You have the right to listen to your heart and follow what you believe is your destiny.
3. Are you passionate about your vision of life?
If you are not waking up excited to live the day then chances are you do not have personal development goals that you are passionate about. People who are passionate about their lives do not want to go to bed at night because they love being awake. They live such fulfilling lives that they cannot wait to wake up and do it again.
If you just can't wait until its bedtime so you can finally end the day you need to identify what you are passionate about. What could you wake up to tomorrow that would make you throw off the covers and practically run out the door? Your real goals will give you energy you never knew existed.
4. Do you understand what success feels like?
Success has a million different definitions and every one of those only applies to the person who is saying it. Success is a feeling we get inside and not our materialistic belongings.
Take time to reflect on what you consider to be past successes. Do not think of the achievement you got in terms of tangible rewards but try to express how you felt in that situation. Was it exhilarating and mind-blowing or were you just slightly happy.
Real goals make you feel like you are on top of the world. Internet marketers always say that their first $100 online is more memorable than their next $100,000. The reason is because that $100 made them feel true success inside. They actually did what they set out to do and it matched what they wanted it to feel like.

Spend the time needed to determine your definition of success. What will life look like, who will you be and what will it take to get there. Most importantly what do you expect to feel when you arrive at your dream destination?
5. What are the daily habits you can create to achieve your goals?
Successful people have successful habits. They didn't just stumble upon those habits but through taking one step each day towards their personal development goals they developed them. By setting up daily routines that push you towards your goals you can create habits.
Most habits are always on autopilot which puts your success on autopilot. If you were in the habit of exercising 30 minutes every day in some form or another I am guessing you would be in fairly good shape. At first you may have to force yourself to go but before long you would wake up and consider doing nothing but go exercise.
This applies to every goal you have. Set up a plan on how to take small daily steps, they turn into habits and before you know it your goal is accomplished.
6. Are you telling yourself: "I can't achieve these goals?
Most people don't believe they can actually achieve the goals they set. They do a good job of writing their goals and planning the steps they need to take but the whole time they tell themselves inside that it won't happen. So it doesn't.
If your belief system is telling you to forget it this isn't going to happen you will need to discover where those beliefs come from. Maybe you don't believe following your passion will pay the bills or that you can't be rich because your parents are poor. You could have been hurt by someone so you believe you can't be loved. I cannot stress enough the importance of having a positive self-belief system.
You can, you will and you deserve to be.
7. Are you afraid of success?
You thought fear of failure was bad. Can you imagine the fact that some people are more afraid of being successful then failing? If they never get to be successful they can blame their failures but when they achieve success they only see one way to go and that is down.
Instead of going after their goals fully they essentially self-sabotage themselves by creating situations where they get fired, make people mad at them or anything that would give them an excuse as to why success wasn't possible. Then they are like "Whew, I almost became more than I already am, dodged that bullet."
Look at success as something you achieve and then do again, over and over. There is no going backwards just in a different direction.
I understand change is scary but I find it even scarier to think that all I am right now is all I ever will be. You deserve to live the life of your dreams so go out there and crush those personal development goals.

Are you living a depressed and stressed lifestyle?

Are you living a depressed and stressed lifestyle? There is no doubt that our fast-paced days in which many are living pay check to pay check are a big contributor to these negative feelings. Some statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that 1 in 10 American adults report depression, but everyone experiences some level of depression at some point in their lifetime. Luckily, there are natural solutions for avoiding and treating depression. The best part? These tips could not only make you a happier person, but also a healthier person.
Here are 5 potential solutions for avoiding depression:

1. Treating Depression – Avoid Junk Food, Fast Food, and Processed Food

It may or may not be surprising, but junk food has actually been linked to depression. In fact, according to one study published in the journal Public Health Nutrition, both junk food and fast food (if there is really a difference) consumption sparks depression. The researchers found that those consuming fast food are 51 percent more likely to be depressed than those consuming very little or none of the health-compromising food. The study concludes with: “Fast-food and commercial baked goods consumption may have a detrimental effect on depression risk”.
Sugary sodas, high-fructose corn syrup, and again, processed foods, also contribute to depression by causing ill health effects. These effects lead to obesity, diabetes, numerous other health problems, and eventually to feelings of self-pity and depression due to feeling physically weak.

2. Expose Yourself to more Sunlight, Up Vitamin D3 Intake

You’ve probably heard it before: if you’re feeling depressed, get some mood-uplifting sun exposure. Well, this advice actually holds true for multiple reasons. There are a multitude of studies that have found an association between vitamin D deficiency and an increased risk of depression. Further, increasing vitamin D was found to reduce depression risk specifically.
One study concluded with:
“We found that low vitamin D levels are associated with depressive symptoms, especially in persons with a history of depression. These findings suggest that primary care patients with a history of depression may be an important target for assessment of vitamin D levels.”
Other research has also found that high levels of vitamin D corresponds with a decreased risk of prolonged existing depression. The study, involving the elderly, showed that those with lower levels of vitamin D were more likely to be depressed than individuals with healthy levels — sometimes upwards of 11 times more likely.
Conscious Inquiry

3. Don’t Drink Diet Soda

Similar to findings linking processed foods with depression, research has also found a link between diet soda consumption and depression. A recent study by the National Institutes of Health found that 31% of individuals consuming 4+ daily servings of artificially sweetened soda, iced tea, or fruit drinks had been diagnosed with depression. This compares to 22% of regular soda drinkers reporting a diagnosis of depression. Further, those drinking 4 or more cups of coffee per day were 10% less likely to suffer from depression than non-coffee drinkers.

4. Consider Throwing Away the Antidepressants

Some individuals taking antidepressants view the medication as a life-saver, but these pharmaceuticals often have no positive effect. In fact, research has shown that a simple placebo can match antidepressants. A Harvard Medical School lecturer and Associate Director of the Program in Placebo Studies at Harvard was recently featured in a CBS 60 Minutes new program showing that anti-depressants are useless for mild to moderately depressed patients. A placebo is almost always nearly as effective. The best part? No negative side-effects.
Ironically, other research has found that these medications can even worsen depression. Even the FDA admits that antidepressants could cause suicidal thoughts and an increased suicide risk.

5. Stop Ingesting so much Fluoride

Seeing as fluoride can lower IQ, cause cancer, damage the thyroid and pineal gland, and even up heart disease risk, is it any surprise that the toxic chemical can cause depression?
“Many Americans are exposed to fluoride in the ranges associated with thyroid effects, especially for people with iodine deficiency,” Kathleen Thiessen, Ph.D. and co-author of the government-sponsored National Research Council report, wrote. “The recent decline in iodine intake in the U.S could contribute to increased toxicity of fluoride for some individuals… A low level of thyroid hormone can increase the risk of cardiac disease, high cholesterol, depression and, in pregnant woman, decreased intelligence of offspring.”

Experts Say: Stress It Should Never Be Ignored

Experts Say: Stress It Should Never Be Ignored
https://www.facebook.com/MentalHealthTreatment

Today, stress is recognized as one of the main health problems. When people face a situation that is considered stressful, they may experience several physical, emotional and behavioural symptoms (anxiety, difficulty in concentrating, skin problems, migraines, etc.). Previous studies, particularly the recent studies performed within the Whitehall II cohort[1], composed of several thousand British civil servants, have already shown that the physiological changes associated with stress can have an adverse effect on health.
Herman Nabi, Inserm researcher at Unit 1018 "The Epidemiology and Public Health Research Centre," and his team went further and studied people who declared themselves to be stressed, in order to look more closely at whether there was a link between their feeling and the occurrence of coronary disease some years later.
Using a questionnaire prepared for the Whitehall II cohort, the participants were invited to answer the following question: "to what extent do you consider the stress or pressure that you have experienced in your life has an effect on your health," the participants had the following answers to choose from: "not at all," "a little," "moderately," "a lot" or "extremely."
The participants were also asked about their stress level, as well as about other factors that might affect their health, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, diet and levels of physical activity. Arterial pressure, diabetes, body mass index and socio-demographic data such as marital status, age, sex, ethnicity and socio-economic status were also taken into account.
According to the results, the participants who reported, at the start of the study, that their health was "a lot" or "extremely" affected by stress had more than twice the risk (2.12 times higher) of having or dying from a heart attack, compared with those who had not indicated any effect of stress on their health.
From a clinical point of view, these results suggest that the patient's perception of the impact of stress on their health may be highly accurate, to the extent that it can predict a health event as serious and common as coronary disease.
In addition, this study also shows that this link is not affected by differences between individuals related to biological, behavioural or psychological factors. However, capacities for dealing with stress do differ massively between individuals depending on the resources available to them, such as support from close friends and family.
According to Hermann Nabi, "the main message is that complaints from patients concerning the effect of stress on their health should not be ignored in a clinical environment, because they may indicate an increased risk of developing and dying of coronary disease. Future studies of stress should include perceptions of patients concerning the effect of stress on their health."
In the future, as Hermann Nabi emphasizes, "tests will be needed to determine whether the risk of disease can be reduced by increasing the clinical attention given to patients who complain of stress having an effect on their health."
[1] Created in 1985, the Whitehall II cohort, consisting of British civil servants, is making a major contribution to research in social epidemiology and is considered internationally to be one of the main sources of scientific knowledge concerning social determinant factors for health.

Mental Illness Causes And Natural Solutions

Mental Illness Causes And Natural Solutions
Mental Illness

Mental illness causes a multitude of problems, from the occasional problem to a permanent deviation from natural balance. These problems are on the rise. The normal medical approach to treating them can be draconian and horrendous. None of them deal with the cause, most are toxic to the body and all depress the immune system, opening the door for future health problems.
Mental health issues are gaining notoriety. They can vary from shutting down emotionally to full clinical depression. They can include mild anxiety to debilitating and frequent anxiety attacks. Mental derangement can be extreme.
Medicine has little understanding of the causes of mental illnesses, so their approach is to subdue the symptoms rather than to take corrective action. Their solution is to use stronger and stronger mind altering drugs that are known to cause increased aggression in many. This aggression is not limited by normal boundaries most of us feel. So the result can be devastating to those involved.
Electric shock treatment is still very much in use for those unfortunate enough to consult with practitioners who support this outdated and ineffective treatment.
All these measures result in shut down zombies who tend to feel nothing - no lows, but no highs either. It makes the problem appear better to the onlooker, but makes the unfortunate sufferer much worse.
Yet it is easy to see mental illness causes when you simply open up your mind.
If you start by looking to nature, it is inconceivable that a wild animal will have these problems. They simply would not be able to survive for any length of time, if they did have them.
Logically, this means the cause must lie in what humans do, or not do.
Let's first look at childbirth. This is no longer a natural process with the due honouring of the mother's role and time to allow the baby to do it their way. Maternity wards are now in hospitals and are coming to resemble a production line, with the maternity staff eager to move on to the next 'patient'.
  • Mothers are often disempowered of this natural process, leading to post natal depression.
  • The umbilical cord is frequently cut before all the blood has been returned to the baby, leading to brain disorders.
  • Babies are often removed from the mother immediately after birth, breaking that all so important link, which can lead to an emotional shut down.
  • Vaccines are introduced at an age when the body has no defense against them, leading to mental disorders such as autism.
Although breast feeding is being encouraged more than it was in the not too distant past, it is still not fully supported with effective health care for the myriad of problems that can arise. Breast feeding is well known to support healthy children, both physically and mentally.
All these potential problems are bad enough, but the common child raising strategies don't allow for the free expression of a growing child. Instead the child is required to be molded and shaped by society, family, religion and education to become robots that support the system.
This is terribly damaging to a child's development. At every turn, their creativity is being suppressed. At every twist in the road, they are being judged. Emotions are not supported for the natural outlet that they represent.
This is all understandable when you appreciate that the same was done to the parents. But it is little wonder that not more people are suffering from mental health problems.
Mental illness causes lie in society's desire to control, in its innate fear of freedom of expression, of allowing you to be who you are. When children are honoured for who they are, when children are allowed to grow without judgement, with full expression of their creativity, then you will have a society without mental health problems.
This is all well and good for future generations. But what about those with problems now? The homeopathic treatment of mental illness always deals with the cause, whether it was from separation from the mother, a vaccine or any other cause. In this way, it is possible to cure mental illnesses, in time.
